Minä Perhonen

Minä Perhonen is one of those special brands that captures the imagination and feel so much more than just a fashion brand - it is art.

The heart and soul behind one of our favourite labels is Akira Minagawa. Minagawa started the label in 1995 and then in 1997 quit working part-time job at a fish market in order to focus on the brand and dressmaking.

The brand was originally called Minä, meaning “me” or “I” in Finnish, and added Perhonen (“butterfly”) in 2003. The name of the label Minä Perhonen originates from Finnish, as Minagawa adores Scandinavian culture and fell in love with Scandinavian design when he first visited Finland at the age of 19.

You can seeing the fusing of Finnish-inspired aesthetics with Japanese craftsmanship in the designs Minagawa creates. Also Minä Perhonen is in no way just a fashion brand. Akira Minagawa has designed bags, fabric, costumes, uniforms, shoes, perfume, tableware and even a mini house! As well as this Minä Perhonen has collaborated with other brands such as The North Face, Liberty London, Fritz Hansen, Kvadrat, Porter, Repetto and many, many more.

Akira Minagawa believes in timeless high quality design and manufacture and this ethos spreads through everything he creates. Come in store and see the quality and exceptional design for yourself.
